Edzell. 15th Dec 2016."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Great course worth playing, but\u00a0only good value with\u00a0discounted green fee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Round \u00a360. \u00a0Par 71. \u00a0Value\u00a0(out of 5) 3<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Edzell Golf Course, in the nice village of Edzell close to the Angus Glens, was established in 1895. \u00a0It is located close to the main A90 between Dundee and Aberdeen so is very easily accessed and well worth playing.<\/p>\n<p>The course was designed by Bob Simpson, with further input from\u00a0James Braid in the 1930s and recently in 2015 was upgraded by Martin Ebert of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mackenzieandebert.co.uk\/aboutus.html\">Mackenzie &amp; Ebert<\/a>\u00a0a company with a growing and prestigious global catalogue. \u00a0The current course lays testimony to golfing architecture at its best; the course fits naturally to its surroundings with, in particular, a great\u00a0array of fairway bunkers which will especially challenge the longer hitters.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_875\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-875\" class=\"size-large wp-image-875\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_9th-yygreen-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_9th-yygreen-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_9th-yygreen-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_9th-yygreen-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-875\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The dangerous 9th hole approach &#8211; keep it left!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The course is\u00a0part heathland part parkland but\u00a0the fairways are generous. \u00a0The greens are very large, with some subtle fairway hollows, making it important to check your yardage. \u00a0Some of the front flag locations are very tricky when coupled to the tight greenside bunkering.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_876\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-876\" class=\"size-large wp-image-876\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_14th-tee-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_14th-tee-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_14th-tee-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/161215_Edzell_14th-tee-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-876\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The par 3 14th at Edzell emblazed with Winter sun<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After a relatively straight forward par 4 first, the 2nd, 4th and 5th are all long par 4s, at well over 400 yards. \u00a0 The 6th is also a tricky par 3 with 5 green side bunkers, where most golfers will be using a hybrid or fairway wood. \u00a0After a bit of respite at 7 and 8, the par 5 9th presents a hazardous approach with a steep river bank close to the right of the green.
