\u00a0Value\u00a0(out of 5)\u00a01.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Portobello is a short 9 hole pay-for-play course\u00a0operated by <a href=\"http:\/\/about.edinburghleisure.co.uk\/who-we-are\/\">Edinburgh Leisure<\/a>, which manages\u00a06 golf courses on behalf of Edinburgh Council; an annual 7-day membership to play all\u00a0courses costs\u00a0around only \u00a3400 \u2013 excellent value. \u00a0 However, Edinburgh Leisure&#8217;s\u00a0pricing policy, with\u00a0all courses priced the same on a pay-per-play basis, makes Portobello very\u00a0poor value compared with the other more substantial courses (e.g. Braid Hills) on offer. \u00a0That is a great shame.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_840\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1st green at Portobello, with good view of Arthur&#8217;s seat over this flat course.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It is a short, open and easy walking course of only 2566 yards,\u00a0with some excellent views of Arthur&#8217;s seat, one of Edinburgh&#8217;s signature landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>There is however little variation on this course, with only a couple of\u00a0playing highlights of note. \u00a0The 6th approach shot over a bunker some 40 yards in front of the green provides a distance judgment challenge, with the green being one of the few sloping ones. \u00a0 The signature hole is the long par 3 9th at nearly 200\u00a0yards and requiring a fairway wood for most I suspect.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_839\" style=\"width: 650px\" who explained the policy of not leaving rakes in the bunkers, due to the theft risk. \u00a0This is a great shame, and I concluded that a better policy might be to at least put the rakes out in the
