a group of courses designed by James Braid, which\u00a0gives golf playing discounts to members of courses within the association.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On closer examination, some of the association&#8217;s courses have fairly tenuous links to Braid &#8211; in Brechin&#8217;s case, it&#8217;s website claims:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By 1926 the famous James Braid was invited to play the course.\u00a0 J.P Gellatly, the Club&#8217;s Captain at the time, generously offered to pay his fee.\u00a0 Braid was so impressed he suggested suitable sites for sand bunkers in the Limefield section (holes 10-17)\u00a0of the course.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_473\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_8th-tree-gap.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-473\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-473\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_8th-tree-gap-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"The tricky and fun par 4 8th at Brechin\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_8th-tree-gap-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_8th-tree-gap-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-473\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The tricky and fun par 4 8th at Brechin<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s clear that holes 10-17 are the best part of the course, with holes 13 and 14 being the toughest in my book &#8211; the greens are also measurably better\u00a0in the section and some of the best in the area.\u00a0 However stand on the first tee and you&#8217;ll realise this is a weak addition to the Braid association.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_474\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_12th-green.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-474\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-474\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_12th-green-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"12th green at Brechin with views of the Angus Hills\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_12th-green-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/150822_Brechin_12th-green-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-474\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">12th green at Brechin with views of the Angus Hills<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Moreover, several of the holes are new editions in the 1990s, and fairly bland additions at that.\u00a0 These new holes are on either side of the Brechin A90 bypass and designed by John Farrell.<\/p>\n<p>The 8th deserves a mention, which is a shortish par 4, with a very small gap in a line of trees &#8211; the only tactic I could see was take driver and try and clear the trees &#8211; there is an ironically placed wishing well to the front right of the green &#8211; I enjoyed this humour from the Members:)<\/p>\n<p>Brechin\u00a0is nevertheless in a nice setting, with good views of the Angus Glens,\u00a0and\u00a0is easily accessible and close to the\u00a0main Dundee-Aberdeen road &#8211;
