Blairgowrie &#8220;Wee&#8221; 9 hole; Wed 8th Jan 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Avoid Wednesdays and Saturdays!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary:\u00a0 Cost \u00a310 (winter).\u00a0 Par 32.\u00a0 Score 43.\u00a0\u00a0Value (out of 5)\u00a0&#8211; 3.5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Detail.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Blairgowrie has a population of 8000, it has\u00a0some quaint but dated shops, certainly no high street coffee branded shops here.\u00a0\u00a0 It does however have\u00a0a\u00a0fine golf club with 3 courses, 2 of which are listed amongst the very best in the world, laid out by the renowned\u00a0James Braid!\u00a0\u00a0 Blairgowrie epitomises\u00a0the\u00a0wonderful conundrum of Scottish golf.<\/p>\n<p>The weather looked good\u00a0and I set off after being advised during a quick telephone call that the Lansdowne course was\u00a0free\u00a0for several tee times around\u00a0mid-day.\u00a0 \u00a0However, as it turns out, Wednesday and Saturday\u00a0are\u00a0the days traditionally the members play en mas, and when I arrived the tee times were taken.\u00a0 I therefore settled for playing the Wee Course, and it turned out fine.\u00a0 But the message for visitors is avoid Wednesdays and Saturdays.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Wee&#8221;, is a lovely little 9 hole course (5 par 4s, and 3 par 3s), with ample lush fairways (they get their fair share of rain in Blairgowrie!) set in very mature woodland.\u00a0 Other than the 416 yard 8th, the par 4s are short and require accuracy, not length, from the tees, especially\u00a0as some are dog legs where a driver will out-run\u00a0of fairway.\u00a0 The bunkers have soft sand\u00a0and were\u00a0well raked, and the greens were big for a 9 hole layout.<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd hole, a dog leg right, has a green protected by 2 magnificent trees making the approach an interesting challenge.\u00a0 Much easier to play in winter with less leaves!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_144\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-144\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/140108_Blairgowrie-Wee-2nd-gree-trees-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2 trees guarding the 2nd green\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/140108_Blairgowrie-Wee-2nd-gree-trees-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/140108_Blairgowrie-Wee-2nd-gree-trees-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2 trees guarding the 2nd green<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, the most intriguing\u00a0hole was the par 3 7th, where you must trust your yardage as there is an unseen valley full of bunkers in front of the green.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_146\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-146\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-146\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/140108_Blairgowrie-Wee-7th-green-bunkers-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Hidden Greens in front of 7th green\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/140108_Blairgowrie-Wee-7th-green-bunkers-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/blog.scotlandgolfbible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/140108_Blairgowrie-Wee-7th-green-bunkers-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-146\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hidden Greens in front of 7th green<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I had a disaster on the par 3 4th, where I pulled both tee shots well left, and ended with a 7.\u00a0 That actually sums up Blairgowrie &#8211; stay out of the trees to have any chance of scoring well.\u00a0 I look forward to tackling the Rosemount and Lansdowne courses, both championship quality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>News of the Day:\u00a0 <\/strong>Dennis Rodman, the US former basketball player, has apologised for angry comments he made about a US man detained in North Korea.
